Wrapstar Carrier!
The Wrapstar is AWESOME. My first Mei Tai, and I got two successful back carries today! (Plus 3 front carries!)
On a side note, I HATE customs. We had to pay the equivalent of $50 just to pick it up from the post office...I could have bought another carrier for that amount- yikes!Read more »
Zak's new skills...
Here I sit, with my son gnawing and slobbering on my wrist as I bounce him on my knee, pondering all the new things he's learned in the past couple weeks. It's really amazing how much Zak is doing these days. He's gone from just watching (and being watched) captivated at what's going on, to doing things that influence his surroundings (in ways not related to gobbing).Read more »
It's a Boy!
I've spread the news on Facebook, IRC, IM and Microblogs, so let me blog about it here.
Yep, Hannah and I are now the proud parents of a beautiful big boy named Zachary. He was born this afternoon at 12:16 via caesarean section, and weighed 3.57 kilograms. Mom is tired, but fine (I've never seen her happier in her entire life), Zak is the most awesome baby ever, and dad is zonked!Read more »

Preparing for Baby: Operation Cot Repaint
So over the last 8 months since we found out that Hannah is pregnant, we've been slowly but surely preparing for the arrival of the new addition to the family. One of the things we've recently done is to buy a second-hand cot. Of course this means that we might not be able to get a cot in the colour we want, and sure enough, this one was a dirty pink colour. Yuck.
So, Operation Cot Repaint was started.
First, we needed some supplies:
A belated birthday bread machine and two baby buys
Like the alliteration?
My 21st birthday was last month and Raoul insisted that because it was my 21st (quite a milestone) that I couldn't just ask for books or other little things as my present- I had to ask for something big and something that I'd really enjoy. It took me awhile to think of something.Read more »
A night in the hospital
I was admitted to the hospital wednesday night. I've had a bad case of gastric flu since Sunday, and haven't been able to get or keep fluids down. Being 5 months pregnant it's very important for the baby that I keep hydrated. We went to the doctor last night to see what I should do, and he suggested I go to hospital and be admitted with an IV drip, so that's what we did. I had an elevated heartrate (110 bpm compared to 79 bpm when I was released thursday), ketones in urine, and was showing other signs of dehydration.Read more »
Latest pregnancy news
This past Tuesday I had my first appointment with the midwife. I was very excited for the appointment, as it makes things feel a bit more real to get antenatal care started and start planning for the birth and everything. I was also really happy to meet Susan and Ciska, the midwives. This appointment was with Susan, but my next appointment should be with Ciska, who I've had phone contact with since my pregnancy test in December. Both of them should be at the birth unless something comes up (like another woman being in labour at the same time).Read more »
Baby's first pictures!
Very exciting news! Raoul and I got to see the baby for the first time this morning when I went for my ultrasound. Baby looks great! The little one has a strong heartbeat, which we got to hear (and see!). We also got to see the baby move (looks like they're already a better dancer than Raoul or I), and see their little arms and legs waving at us. The baby measured to be 10 weeks and 2 days old, which fit with our estimate. The doctor says everything looks great- healthy and normal.Read more »
