31 Days of Parenting Littles: Dare

I hear about a lot of dare-devil little boys. The type who scramble up trees with no thoughts of how to get down, or worse, try jumping off the roof with an umbrella for a parachute- things like that that are often portrayed in movies and subsequently tested out by real live counterparts.

So far I have been very relieved that neither Zak or Josiah are displaying these tendencies. In fact, even our super-extrovert, Zak, is actually rather timid when it comes to those sorts of things. He is very cautious around heights, so jumping off them isn't something we have to worry about. He came across a slug-eater (small snake) in the garden the other day and after pushing Josiah away and yelling for him to run away, Zak ran inside and told me there was a snake. No playing with potentially poisonous reptiles either- phew! Josiah is also quite cautious around heights, although he wasn't at all phased by the snake (most likely because he has no clue about the concept of venomous snakes, unlike Zak, who knows some snakes can be dangerous).

Zak is also funny about riding in the car. He usually likes to go fast (or feel like we are anyway, like when we accelerate going onto the highway), but when we have fragile passengers, like the first several times we drove with Anneke in the car, or when we get a new fish for the aquarium, he's constantly telling Raoul to slow down and be careful going around corners.

Are your kids daring or cautious? What's the most daring thing they've done?
